A full review of the stars of the first day of the new Premier League season. Nunez and Saliba make their respective sides proud.Â
It’s safe to say that Liverpool ended their first day in the new Premier League season on a lighter note. They suffered an unexpected 2-2 draw against Fulham. Although it can be said that their new star signing changed the complexity of the game.Â
Nunez Rises To The Occasion
Darwin Nunez was named among the substitutes at the start of the game but similar to his heroics in the community shield match against Manchester City last weekend, his late introduction turned around the game. Liverpool’s £85 million signing bagged an assist and a goal in just 39 minutes on the pitch. Moreover, he took four shots out of which three were on target. His four shots were also twice as many as any other Pool player. He completely changed the game around and brought some special Jurgen Klopp chaos with him.
“He was involved in a lot of goalscoring situations and that’s really cool,” Jurgen Klopp at the post-match interview.Â
Mitrovic’s Stellar Display
Although it can be fairly said that Liverpool got cooked in the first half at Craven Cottage. Fulham players were everywhere. Marco Silva came up with his best plan to restrict the Liverpool midfield off creativity.
Their talisman, Aleksandar Mitrovic, was a surprise package. Although he only had 5 touches in the first 20 minutes of the match little did we know that he was going to bag a brace. His first goal looked exactly what a training goal looks like.
It was recognizable that they had practiced this sort of play hundreds of times in training. Getting passes through the lines and then bending in a deep cross which Mitrovic welcomed with open arms. The surprising aspect of the game was that Mitrovic schooled Liverpool’s world-class backline. Virgil van Dijk seemed confused as to how to restrict Mitrovic. His second goal was a rather cheeky penalty as well.Â
Saliba’s Classy Debut + MOM
It can be rightly said that Arsenal’s new signing, Gabriel Jesus, was their best player against Crystal Palace in the first half. However, at the end of the match, we had a deserving player of the match in the form of William Saliba.
This man signed for Arsenal in 2019 but never played for them since. Saliba waited for 3 years to get his first in the Premiership and it couldn’t have been any better for him. He was brilliant in making sure that Arsenal see out the game with a clean sheet.Â
Saliba made 7 clearances (most), 3 headed clearances (most), won possession 7 times (second most), and also had 94% passing accuracy, the most out of any player playing at Selhurst Park.Â
Spurs Delight Continues
Tottenham Hotspur continues their winning form under Antonio Conte. Things went quiet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today in the Premier League as soon as James Ward-Prowse converted a cross from Moussa Djenepo into a goal.
But Spurs managed to make a delightful comeback after that. Ryan Sessegnon started the scoring and Dejan Kulusevski scored the fourth and final for Spurs. However, it must be added that Kulusevski looked like a beast today. Not only did he get a goal but he managed to bag an assist as well. He was also officially made man of the match. The spurs look stronger and stronger under Conte and their gonna give it all versus Chelsea next weekend.Â
