Derry Girls is a comedic series that shows the life of a group of friends living in Derry, Northern Ireland. It was first released in 2019 and since then they have renewed it for two seasons. Derry Girls is based around the 90’s time and that obviously calls for some outstanding costuming. The group of five friends consists of Erin, her cousin Orla, Clare, Michelle and Michelle’s cousin James. Then the series features Erin’s parents, Gerry and Mary and her aunt and Orla’s mother Sarah. In Derry Girls the group has been shown going through the troublesome stages of life as a war is going out.Â

Some wanted Northern Ireland to remain a part of the United Kingdom whilst the Nationalists demanded the state to join a newly united Ireland. Unfortunately, Derry was a town located right on the border and hence it accounted for many extreme measures and threats.
Derry Girls also shedded light on some real life events that occurred at the time whilst carrying on with their fictional narrative. For instance the IRA ceasefire announcement in 1994.
